New Food Friday: Chicken Karaage Bento from Hanamaru

I recently checked out the new-ish @hanamaru.pape on Paper near Mortimer after seeing @torontofoodblog post about it.

It's a small well stocked market with lots of Japanese and Korean goods. Pantry items, snacks, drinks and a solid frozen food selection. The reason for my visit however, was to try their bento boxes. They are made to order with fresh ingredients with choices of Tofu, Salmon, Bulgogi and more.

My choice for the day was the Chicken Karaage Bento. Perfect fried morsels of chicken in a slightly sweet sauce with some acidity on a bed of rice. The side items offered in the Bento change from day to day. This time it came with some hard boiled egg, stewed eggplant, fresh tomato and pickled ginger, cabbage and carrot. Every bite and combination of flavours was fantastic!

I'll definitely be back again to peruse their market and try another Bento or some of their sushi which looks amazing as well.
